Custom Display Cabinets

In this section of our website, you will find some information on various styles of units we have constructed for private collectors as well public institutions. Our business has included manufacturing hundreds of custom display cabinets for nearly 20 years and we think we are able to address most of the concerns for display, storage, and exhibiting specimens.

All of our cabinets are constructed with Eastern hardwoods or imported woods via the customers requests. We prefer to use both white and red oak, cherry, walnut, ash, hard maple, and mported mahoganey woods. These varieties include quarter sawn, flat sawn, and curly grains of wood.

Lighting or cabinet illumination may be the collectors most critical concern. We utilize low voltage, 12 volt, regulated halogen lighting for most of our units that require lighting. This minimizes the heat in the display cabinet and actually allows us to use more lights throughout the cabinet design. We place fixed "down" lights from the top cornice that project the light down thru the glass shelving. We also place lighting along opposite sides of the front edge of the cabinet. This allows us to align light heads to focus illumination along the length of each shelf. This allows the entire cabinet to be illuminated and not just the top couple of shelves. A circulation venting air fan is also placed inside each unit to eliminate any heat inside the unit. All of the electrical is controlled by a set of switches mounted on the outside of the side of the top display unit.

We use 1/2 inch glass shelving positioned with 6 points of attachment for strength and all of the shelving is adjustable. Our "multi-drawer" cabinets contain drawers that use full extension, metal, ball bearing drawer guides. All of these drawers cn be constructed to the design specifications of each collector. All drawers and doors can be locked and we use solid brass door and drawer pulls for easy operation.

After the initial discusions with the interested collector we usually design the cabinet and make drawings "to scale" and send out the drawings for the collector to review. We also include various wood samples stained to various shades and colors so the client can visualize the wood tones. Each unit is stained with the color of their choice and the final treatment includes three applications of satin finish.

We use mostly all solid hardwoods for these cabinets and incorporate hardwood plywood for the drawer bottoms and the back sides of some of the units for additional strength. We do not use any composite woods, MDF or laminates unless these specifications are asked for by the customer.

Remember, these are custom designed and constructed cabinets. Each cabinet can be designed per the requirements of the collector or institution. The designs are limited only by the imagination of the collector. We quote the cost of each cabinet after the design, wood types, and specifications are determined. Because of the success of our business we usually have several months of orders waiting to be completed. Most collectors understand this and are willing to wait for a high quality cabinet deserving of their specimens!

Please review the information on the websiten and give us a call or send an e-mail. We will respond and can discuss any of your needs or concerns. Thanks again for your time, considerations, and interests!

Sincerely,
